Be SMART when Setting Goals

Goal setting is like working on a business plan, it needs to be felt and analyzed. It needs more than just an evaluation of what you want and desire, it entails an in-depth analysis of what you are capable of and what you want to do. Just like a business plan, you should also consider the risk and rewards, cost and opportunities, possibilities and resources. It takes so much to set a life goal, but it is the foundation of getting what you want. It is the path in which you drive your efforts into, a solid brick foundation of your dreams and ambition.

Being SMART when setting goals is important. Especially if you really want good results at the end of your quest. Just like in business planning, you need your goals in place, and should follow the SMART principle. Goals needs to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bounded.

Specific - When an objective is put in place, you should be very specific about it. It should not be too general for it can mislead you to what you really want. Be clear and precise about your goals and you will have a clear direction into it.

Measurable - You should be able to measure the progress you are making towards your goal. In setting up a goal, you should be able to answer questions about quantity such as "how much" and "how many". Knowing the figures will help you in the evaluation if you are really gearing up towards your objectives.

Achievable - We know that we are bound to great things, that everything is possible, but let us not disregard our limitations and specialties. Our skills are enhanced on various matters; we do not have the monopoly of all the knowledge and skills. Everything can be learned but wouldn't it be more realistic and achievable if we gear our objectives up to what we were really meant to be?

Relevant - Choose goals that matters to you. You can set a lot of specific goals, one that you think will work out just fine to make your life better but is it relevant? Is it important? Is it worth your time and effort? Choose what is relevant, choose what matters.

Time-bound - Set a time frame. Know when you would want to have your goals and objectives materialized. The tendency of not setting a time frame that is realistic is that you will tend to procrastinate doing things. So have a realistic time frame and work on your objectives religiously.

Still, like all other things, being SMART is not the end of goal setting, You need to EVALUATE and RE-EVALUATE just to make sure that all other things are still gearing towards your goals. SMART setting of goals need not be the smartest for you leave no room for flexibility, you just need to be SMARTER and you're off to a good start.

Vital Health Benefits of Grilling Your Food

With warm weather, a lovely Sunday afternoon is incomplete without a BBQ session with friends and family. Though the trend of having a grill machine at homes is only recent, it's fast becoming a norm.

But first things first. Before you actually start grilling, there are certain set of rules which you should follow.

Don't overcook your food: It's been revealed that people who consume burnt or overcooked meat regularly are more prone to having cancers because of the presence of carcinogens present in food which is charred.

Use a marinade which is low fat: Several researches have proven that using a marinade over the meat can reduce the HCA formation on it.

Keep it lean: Remove all the fat and prepare a lean cut of the meat. If the meat keeps dripping off, there is a chance that the meat can flare up.

Use foil: In order to prevent any sudden flare-ups, cover the meat in aluminium foils and make small holes in the foil in order for the fat in the meat to drain out.

Wondering if following such rules is worth it? Well, grilling does indeed have several health benefits.

Marinades can be healthy: Without the worry of huge calories, you can add bold flavours to your food through grilling. Some of the marinades which you can use:
Worcestershire sauce, chilli sauce, tomato Paste, molasses.

Tasty veggies: Several people have noticed that vegetables taste much better when they are grilled instead of cooked. Caramelising the vegetables by marinating them will bring the best of flavours in the vegetables. Some of the best vegetables to grill are:
Onions (red, white or sweet), corn, mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, asparagus.

Protein: Just like vegetables, grilling brings the best flavours in meats too. Meat is a great source of protein which is valuable to our body. Grilling the meat will ensure that the protein in the meat is not lost. Some of the meats which are best grilled are:
chicken (without the skin), steak (remove the fat), pork tenderloin.

But grilling is not just about the food; it's much more than that. More often than not it has been seen that families love to indulge in a grill party with friends and neighbours. But for that, you've got to have the right equipment because it's not that you can grill your food anyplace you like.

Why I Love LinkedIn (And Why You Should Too!)

Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways ...

LinkedIn is one of my favorite things in the world. It is the professional networking site with currently over 400 million users. It helps open doors and uncover opportunities on a broad spectrum while building contacts and relationships.

I am constantly asking my clients,

"Have you joined LinkedIn yet?" or

"Have you beefed up that LinkedIn profile yet?" or

"If you don't have the time, let me know and I'll do it for you - just make sure you do it!"

By now you can probably sense my passion about the site. I'm overzealous about LinkedIn because of some very useful information I've heard at conferences AND because of the huge amount of success my clients have had with it.

Some employers today are hiring directly from within LinkedIn. Some are also posting their job openings ONLY on LinkedIn. This is a big deal especially since the majority of these companies are huge.

LinkedIn also has other benefits:

1) Unlimited amount of exposure and visibility of you and your business. "Connect" with as many people as you can. If you are job searching this is a great way to network. Once you start connecting, you become visible on other people's pages, increasing the chances of getting to the top of a page when people are looking for someone to hire.

2) Use your LinkedIn profile to research companies you would like to work for. Go to the "Companies" tab and type in the name of a company you are interested in. Check and see if they are hiring and inquire!

3) Get help or advice. Use the "answers" section of it to pose and answer questions. Answering questions and having your answers voted as "best" or "good" boosts your credibility and gets your name out there. Use it to get answers to just about anything. Be prepared for a lot of feedback.

4) Boost your Search Engine results. If you are a business owner, we all know it's all about Search Engine Optimization. The great news about LinkedIn is that it allows search engines to index your profile information. Adding your LinkedIn link to your signature line while posting to other sites further strengthens your visibility to the search engines.

4 Ways to Grab the Attention of Your Audience

Gaining your audience's attention at the beginning of your presentation is crucial for two reasons: your audience will remember the first things you say (primacy effect), and they will decide to stay engaged with you. Here are 4 ways to start your presentation on the right path for engagement.

1. Pause. There is immense power in a pause, and the beginning of your presentation is the only time when you will have your audience's undivided attention. Take advantage of this opportunity and don't rush to make your first remarks. Pause for couple of seconds before uttering your first words. This will make your opening statement even more impactful.

2. Tell a Story. We are all hard-wired for stories. Stories engage an audience on an emotional level as stories create meaning and a shared experience for your listeners. Open with a story that relates to the premise or main point in your presentation.

3. Use a Provocative Statistic or Quote. John Medina, author of Brain Rules writes, "... novel stimuli - the unusual, unpredictable, or distinctive - are powerful ways to harness attention... " Find a little known statistic or quote to start the wheels turning in the minds of your audience. They will stay tuned out of curiosity to hear the "how" or "why" that relates to your unique initial remarks.

4. Engage in an Activity. Techniques like body polls are a quick and easy way to engage your audience, suggests Bill Hoogterp, speaking coach and CEO of Blue Planet Training. What's a body poll? With a body poll, you ask your audience to use parts of their body (hands, fingers) to give an answer to a question. For example, if a speaker asks, "On a scale of 1 - 10, how would you rate your eating habits?" The audience would raise their fingers to rate themselves on this scale. You can then use this data to interact with your audience.

Don't waste the beginning of your speech with powerless platitudes. Start strong, because attention spans are short, and second chances at first impressions are rare.
