Mind your manners. Don’t walk into your workplace as if you have walked into your classroom. This is totally different. Try to get that professionalism into your mind. Wear proper clothes. Be in the best of your manners. Keep your ear on the grapevine but never contribute to it. Do this to be on the safe side of all the gossip in the workplace which may affect you.

Networking may be a bit tedious at times but it does help in the long run. Everyone you know is a potential member of your network. Keep this in mind. Be willing to help people in your network. 10 Facts about Olive Oil

by: Sally Nightingale (reading – 16.4. - 22.4.)

Olive oil is a fabulous ingredient with many uses, from medicinal purposes such as preventing heart disease and cancer to beauty benefits such as providing anti-aging properties, amongst the most popular form which is used in cooking and baking.

1. History The olive tree is a crop native to Asia Minor that spread to Iran, Syria, Palestine and the rest of the Mediterranean basin around 6,000 years ago. It is among the oldest cultivated trees in the world and began growing long before the written language existed.

2. Family The olive family, also known as the Oleaceae family, comprises of 600 species that are situated on all continents.

3. The Olive Tree There are many variations of olive trees which have many similarities and equally a lot of differences. Growing characteristic and appearance vary, as well as the size, taste and quality olives that they produce.

4. Harvesting One of the most debated questions among growers is when to harvest. Harvesting can be done in many different ways, from hand-picking to completely mechanized harvesting.

5. Maturity Stages Immature olives are green and quite firm – they produce oil that is bitter. These oils are high in antioxidants. When the olive fruit matures, it turns yellowish and starts to soften and then the skin turns purple in colour. As the fruit completely matures, the skin turns from purple to black. Oils produced from these olives usually have a shorter lifespan and are often described as sweet oils.

6. Extra Virgin Olive Oil Extra virgin olive oil is the highest grade olive oil. It is made without the use of chemicals or excessive heat. High quality oil is ideal as a condiment - whether it’s drizzled over meat, fish, vegetables and as a dipping sauce for bread.

7. Flavours Flavours of olive oil depend on range of factors including the type of olive, ripeness at harvest, growing conditions, crop maintenance and the handling of the olives. When tasting olive oil, much of the oil characteristics are perceived through the sense of smell. A trained taster can identify negative elements within the oil which can be a result of improper handling, poor storage, and wet weather conditions.

8. Beauty Benefits The polyphenols found in olive oil have also been found to slow the process of aging and help prevent degenerative diseases. When used on the hair or scalp, olive oil can be used as a deep conditioner and a dandruff controller.

9. Health Benefits Studies have shown that olive oil offers protection against heart disease by controlling LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, while raising HDL (good) levels. No other naturally produced oil has a large amount of monounsaturated as olive oil. Olive oil has also the ability to reduce the effect of an oncogene - a gene that will turn a host cell into a cancer cell.

10. Storage Olive oil should be stored in a cool, dark place and not in the refrigerator as it will become cloudy and will eventually solidify. If it’s properly stored it can keep for at least two years, however, it is the most flavourful in the first two months.

Pig Roast Tips from the Experts - The Porkers

by: Michael Achey (reading – 23.4. - 29.4.)

During the summer bbq season, a number of people have asked the Porkers their secret to the perfect roast pig. The Porkers’ owner and professional pit master/pig roaster Michael Achey has compiled a list of 7 important tips on the art of cooking the perfect spit roasted pig. For more on The Porkers, go to

Tip # 1 - Roast Slowly
Cook a pig of over 40 pounds for a minimum of four hours, ideally at least six hours. You can’t rush great pork.

Tip # 2 - Cook it More Slowly
This can’t be overemphasized. Why? Because it takes time to break down the pig’s connective tissue into tender, delicious meat that everyone will love. For example, Hawaiian style roast pig can take 12 hours.

Tip #3 – To Baste or Not to Baste, That is the Question
And the answer is – no basting’s necessary. The pig will cook in its own juices. However, the Porkers have created their own special blend of seasonings (sorry, it’s a trade secret).

Tip # 4 – When Do You Stuff a Pig?
This is popular outside of the United States, such as in the Philippines. The Porkers don’t think this is necessary, but if you want to give it a go, it’s best with a small or suckling pig.

Tip # 5 – The Best Coals to Use Are…
Not charcoal briquets. The Porkers recommend hardwood charcoal for that one-of-a-kind succulent flavor. You can find them at stores selling outdoor equipment or Home Depot.

Tip # 6 – Utensils
The bottom line is, if you need a knife, then it’s cooked incorrectly. When the pig roasts long enough (yes, we’re talking “slowly” again), the meat will fall off into small pieces, including the ribs. With the Porkers’ pigs, we can separate the meat with our hands (sanitized hands, of course).

Tip # 7 – Don’t Go From the Spit to the Plate
After you’ve roasted the pig slowly, remove it from the heat and allow it to keep turning for another 30 minutes. This evens out the temperature of the meat, which levels the moisture content as well.

The Porkers mastered the art of pig roasting after hundreds of BBQ's and a relentless desire to create the perfect entrees. Achey and partners will bring a whole pig on a spit to any location in the NY metropolitan area. And that's not all The Porkers provide - a full menu of barbecue style food is included in the package price, including vegetarian options. The Porkers bring everything needed for a roasted pig, creating a worry-free experience for hosts and guests. A minimum of 40 party-goers is suggested to get the maximum value from each pig. A List Of Jackie Chan Stunts In Which He Almost Died

by: (reading – 30.4. - 6.5.)

In the list of Jackie Chan stunts the star risks his life, and has come close to death many times. Still, he keeps going, making some of the best martial arts movies ever made. Here are seven Jackie Chan Films in which he nearly met the grim reaper, or at least suffered serious injuries.

One of his early starring efforts was a movie called Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. During the filming of this movie he failed to evade a sword which should have had a blunt edge. The result was a thick spray of his blood, and the screams you hear in the scene are of his real and actual pain.

In Police Story he was nearly paralyzed. He slid down a pole in one scene, exploding lights and ripping electrical wires and falling through a glass cover. In this scene he broke the seventh and eighth vertebra in his spine, and dislocated his pelvis.

During the filming of Crime Story Jackie had a scene in which he was between two cars which were crashing together. Either his timing, or the drivers' timing was not quite what it should have been. The sequence resulted in one Jackie Chan Stunt, and a star with two crushed legs.

He has injured his knees more times than he can count, and doubts that he has much cartilage left. One of the worst knee injuries he ever suffered was during, of all things, a skateboard scene. The film was City Hunter.

One of his most famous injuries was while filming a scene while filming Rumble in the Bronx. He leaped and broke his ankle when attempting to land on a moving hovercraft. You can see, if you look carefully, the cast they put on his leg so he could keep filming.

He nearly broke his neck on the set of Project A. In this instance he fell from a very tall clock tower, bounced from awning to awning, before landing on his head on the ground. You can see this scene, and other out-takes of him being injured, at the end of the movie.

The worst injury he ever received, however, was during the filming of Armour of God. He leaped to a tree, missed, and bashed his head on the ground. The star is a trooper however, for within two days of nearly dying from a broken skull and hemorrhaging brain, he was back filming and making more of his incredible Jackie Chan Stunts.
